The word out there on the street is that the titanic battle between the illustrious iPhone and the avant-guard Android is still raging.

A rather interesting report was carried out and published in spring of 2011 by Distimo, which offered a detailed comparison of the two rival app stores that are avid contenders for the modern-day client engaged in downloading services, games or informative apps by means of their phones. The study revealed that in the third and fourth months of the year saw iTunes bring in a registered over 500,000 app downloads in over six applications , whereas only two achieved this target on Android applications.

Once again Distimo’s investigations threw up data regarding iPhone games that actually resulted in a 10 to 5 ratio with Android on downloads crossing the 250,000 mark. The iPhone figures were compiled from the US market alone, which is enviable for any major company.

Specific conclusions were culled from the survey and these were mainly that iPhone app developers had much more chance of generating huge figures in comparison to focusing on apps presented on an Android platform. The favourite – and therefore the most commercial viability – is the iPhone.
Relevant data which was clearly highlighted in the report was that one fifth of Android apps requiring a fee had been downloaded on more than 100 occasions. And of course, and coming at no surprise, is the fact that Google Maps, a tremendously popular Android app can boast a huge 50 million downloads at this time. Of course the fact that Google Maps has recently incorporated its Street View facility has made its popularity, use and effectiveness even more advantageous. Bearing in mind nevertheless that the images are not in real time as they may have been registered some months previously. And related product Google Earth has taken the vision even further with fantastic images from space practically -even the polar regions. However it must be stressed that Google Maps uses a close variant of the Mercator projection so it cannot actually show areas around the polar regions themselves.

Developers on Android write primarily in the Java language, where they can control the device by means of Google-developed Java libraries.
However, in general terms iPhone apps are leading the field quite obviously as their success is vibrantly documented.
It is extremely useful for app development companies to be able to take advantage of studies which help them keep abreast of the latest trends and being able to successfully gauge what is working in the market and what is not.

In a professional capacity it is always advisable to keep well-informed regarding the most recent occurrences within the profession and to feel confident of the services further offered to clients that require the ultimate luxury in phone apps.

Mind you all app developers can rejoice in the fact that they can offer both these excellent opportunities -iPhone and Android- to prospective clients with a view to providing extensive variety in this especially productive field.
